This album features the Panthéon & part of the University of Paris taken on two summer evenings.
The Panthéon is a monument in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, in the heart of the Latin Quarter atop the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève. Built from 1758 to 1790 at the behest of King Louis XV, the Panthéon was meant to be a church dedicated to Sainte-Geneviève, the patron saint of Paris. When construction was completed, the French Revolution had started, and the National Constituent Assembly voted in 1791 to transform the church into a mausoleum for the remains of distinguished French citizens, modelled after the Pantheon in Rome.
The Panthéon was surrounded by the University of Paris, which split into a dozen public universities in 1970. Right next to the Panthéon was the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Now, the buildings house University of Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne), II (Panthéon-Assas), III (Sorbonne Nouvelle), and IV (Paris-Sorbonne).
